Key Takeaways

  • A strong savoury spread balances warm and cold, light and hearty, so it suits a mixed office rather than one type of eater.
  • Ready-to-deliver finger food removes the shopping, prep and clean-up, arriving plated and ready to serve.
  • A few vegetarian and lighter options alongside the meat picks let you cater to a wider range of tastes and dietary needs.

Savoury Finger Sandwiches

Finger sandwiches are the anchor of any afternoon tea spread. The dependable middle of the table that everyone reaches during office events. They're familiar, easy to eat standing up, and suit just about everyone in the room.

What makes them work for an office is the range in a single box. A good platter mixes fillings on soft multigrain, white, and rye bread. For fillings, think chicken with rocket and herb mayonnaise, curried egg with baby spinach, leg ham with cheese, and smoked salmon with cream cheese and capers. That spread of choices means one order easily handles a room of different tastes, which is exactly what you want for a casual team tea or a client-facing one.

  • Cut into neat fingers, so they're tidy to hand round
  • A spread of fillings in soft multigrain, rye, and white bread in one box
  • Ready to serve to team members or clients the moment they arrive

A finger sandwich platter is the simplest way to cover the savoury base of an office tea spread.

Mini Quiches for a Warm Savoury Bite

If the whole table is cold food, it can feel a bit flat. A few warm bites change that, and mini quiches are an easy way to bring some heat to the spread.

They're cocktail-sized, so people can grab one between meetings without needing a plate. The light pastry holds a soft, savoury filling, and with multiple flavours in the box, you get a variety of tastes from a single order. They double as a vegetarian-friendly choice too, which takes the pressure off when you have to cater to a group with different dietary preferences.

For high tea finger foods that feel a touch more substantial than a sandwich, a warm quiche is hard to beat.

  • Cocktail-sized and easy to eat on the move
  • More than one flavour per box
  • A warm, vegetarian-friendly option for the table

Add assorted mini quiches when you want a warm, bite-sized savoury option in the mix.

Cocktail Sausage Rolls

Here's the thing about catering for a mixed group in an office: you're never quite sure what everyone likes. A cocktail sausage roll takes that worry off the table. It's the savoury bite that almost nobody turns down.

Cocktail sausage rolls are small enough to eat quickly on the go, and familiar enough that you don't have to explain them to your peers and guests. This makes them an excellent finger food idea for office afternoon tea parties. It arrives hot-food-ready, so there's no prep on your end.

  • A familiar favourite that suits a mixed group
  • Arrives hot and ready to serve
  • Easy to eat in a couple of bites

Drop cocktail sausage rolls into the order when you want a crowd-pleaser that needs no thought.

Turkish Fingers

Want a savoury bite that feels a step away from the usual sandwich tray? Turkish fingers bring a bit of variety without straying far from familiar territory.

Made fresh and packed by the box, they come with assorted fillings, so there's interest across the platter rather than the same thing many times over. They sit nicely between the lighter cold items and the heartier hot ones, giving the spread a bit of texture. They're the sort of finger food for high tea savoury idea that reads as a touch more thoughtful without asking anything extra of you.

  • Assorted fillings across the box
  • Freshly made and packed
  • A change of pace from standard tea sandwiches

Add a Turkish fingers platter when you want variety beyond the usual at your next office event.

Gourmet Mini Pizza

Few things clear a platter faster than mini pizza. It's a savoury bite that needs no introduction, and it tends to be the first tray to empty when you cater to a wide range of guests.

The gourmet mini pizza box comes in three flavours: tandoori chicken, vegetarian, and mini Mexican beef, so there's coverage for meat-eaters and vegetarians in a single order. Bite-sized and full of flavour, they're an easy crowd-pleaser that still feels like a treat rather than a default. For office catering that wants a fun, familiar, and delectable savoury option, they earn their spot.

  • Three flavours, including a vegetarian one
  • Bite-sized and easy to hand round
  • A reliable crowd-pleaser

Add a gourmet mini pizza box for a savoury and delicious bite that disappears fast.

Italian Arancini

Crispy on the outside, soft in the middle, and perfect for entertaining peers and clients during a well-rounded afternoon tea. Italian arancini bring a different texture to the spread and happen to be a solid vegetarian option. That makes them useful on two fronts.

For a start, they break up a table that's heavy on pastry and bread. A crispy, golden bite is a welcome change of pace from something like tea cakes or sweet tarts. Just as importantly, they give you something to put in front of the vegetarians in the room, so you're catering to dietary needs without ordering a whole separate menu.

  • A crispy texture that stands out on the platter
  • A vegetarian afternoon snack choice that suits dietary requirements
  • Easy to eat in a single bite

Add Italian arancini for crunch and a vegetarian-friendly savoury bite for a perfect afternoon tea in the office.

Vegetarian Crudités and Dips

Not every savoury option needs to be baked or fried. A fresh crudités and dips platter brings colour, crunch, and a lighter choice to the table.

It's a healthy savoury bite that suits the people watching what they eat, and it gives the vegetarians in the room something made for them rather than a meat dish with the filling picked out. Fresh veggies like fresh celery, capiscum, carrots, and cucumbers with dips also work as a clean counterweight to the warmer, richer items, so the spread doesn't feel heavy all the way through. It's a simple way to cater to a wider range of tastes and dietary needs.

  • Fresh veggies with dips, no baking involved
  • A lighter, vegetarian-friendly choice
  • A clean counterweight to richer bites

Set out a vegetarian crudités and dips platter for a fresh, lighter option.

Fresh Rice Paper Rolls

After a run of pastry and warm bites, a fresh option resets the table. Rice paper rolls are light, clean, and a good counterweight to the richer items on the spread.

They suit the people who would rather have something lighter in the afternoon, and they look fresh sitting among the warmer dishes. They are also naturally bite-sized, so they fit the finger food brief without any fuss, and they give you another choice for guests watching what they eat. A few of these round out a spread so it isn't all pastry.

  • A light, fresh counterweight to richer bites
  • Naturally bite-sized and easy to serve
  • Perfect finger food option for lighter appetites

Finish the afternoon tea event table with Vietnamese rice paper rolls for a lighter, fresher bite.

Frequently Asked Questions

What savoury finger foods suit an office afternoon tea?

Mix a few savoury items so there's something for everyone. Finger sandwiches, mini quiches, cocktail sausage rolls, Turkish fingers, mini pizzas, arancini, vegetarian crudités and dips, and rice paper rolls all work well. Aim for a balance of warm and cold, light and hearty, so the spread suits a mixed group.

Can the spread cover vegetarian or dietary requirements?

Yes. Several savoury options are vegetarian-friendly, including arancini, mini quiches, vegetarian crudités and dips, and rice paper rolls. Building a spread with a few of these alongside the meat options caters to a wider range of tastes without ordering a separate menu. For specific requirements, confirm the details when you order.

How does ordering compare to making finger food in-house?

Ordering removes the work. Making finger food at the office means shopping, prep, baking, and clean-up, usually on a busy day. Ready-to-deliver platters arrive prepared and ready to serve, so nobody loses an afternoon to catering. You also get a consistent result and more variety than most offices could manage themselves, which elevates the entire experience.

What works for a client-facing tea versus a casual team one?

For a client-facing afternoon tea, lean on items that look considered: Turkish fingers, gourmet mini pizzas, and a neat sandwich platter. For a casual team tea, crowd-pleasers like cocktail sausage rolls and arancini keep things relaxed and filling. Most spreads work best with a bit of both.

We ordered a selection of platters for our executive morning tea and, unfortunately, were quite disappointed with the quality and portion sizes. For a total spend of $450, the food provided was enough for a maximum of ten people. The muffins were extremely small—about the size of a teaspoon—and the fruit platter consisted mostly of half a watermelon with a few kiwifruit and orange slices. Overall, everything was far smaller and less substantial than expected. On a positive note, the order arrived on time and the food was still warm, which we appreciated. However, given the cost, the value and portion sizes fell well below expectations. .

Food is okay. But delivery is not up to standard. For a catering business, quality of food and on time delivery is essential. It was so stressful waiting for delivery. The delivery was so late and the driver called a wrong person.....:(

I paid over $249 for an order of sandwiches, rice balls and party pies. The quality of the order was extremely disappointing. The food was borderline inedible, with the texture of cardboard. Hardly and filling in the sandwich, Was it left out on the benchtop overnight? The quality would be unacceptable for a $5 special from the supermarket, let alone premium priced supposedly gourmet sandwiched. Gluten free does not translate to dry and rough. I hope this is not reflective of the standard of your catering, as I would hate for other customer to have the same experience.”

EXCELLENT PRODUCTS AS USUAL. I would certainly recommend for any occasion - thus far I have done a "finger food" package for a cocktail party and just recently a selection of "morning tea" goodies (sandwiches and cakes) for a birthday high tea. YUM YUM YUM. Well packaged and presented and extremely easy to order and pick up. My photo doesn't really do the goodies justice and the stuff displayed wasn't even the half of it :)

I'm very impressed with the catering. Easy online ordering process and I only gave them two days notice. The quality of the food is very good and was brought to our door on time, hot and ready to serve. Will use them again.

I needed some finger sandwiches and mini cakes for a recent funeral I was organising and googled finger sandwiches and up Catering Zone. It was easy to select what I wanted, see how the food was presented and cost. Ordered before 3pm for next day delivery. By the time I arrived at the venue the orders had already arrived. Easy! I would definitely use Catering Zone again. Even their request for a review was easy, only two questions and summit.

We needed to organise a wedding in 3 weeks due to a family members terminal diagnosis and ordered online for pick up. The food surpassed all expectations and was just amazing. Our order included chocolate covered strawberries and they were flavourful and everyone enjoyed them. We got cannoli which were large, crunchy and yummy. We got a selection of sandwiches and brioche rolls and all the fillings were delicious. The pies and sausage rolls were flavourful and our guests loved them. Thank you so much catering zone for making our wedding memorable with your wonderful food! We will absolutely be recommending your business to family and friends.

I often require catering for hospital events and came across Catering Zone. The food is exactly as you see it on the website. The range available is incredible and the food has been fantastic and well received by customers. It presents very well. I would add that if you're ordering outside the delivery area then to give them a call as they can sort something out if it's not too far or charge accordingly.
